Today – The Power of the ‘Y’ Word

"Peace. It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart."Anonymous

Today is International Yoga Day! So, I thought I'd talk about yoga.  Why do we practise it?

"Chitta vritta nirodha", the sage Patanjali states in the Yoga Sutras...meaning that you are in yoga when the fluctuating activities of your mind become still and you remain alert.

Yoga is a way of being still, even when your life and the world around you seems chaotic and out of control. It is a way to be fully and wholeheartedly present with whatever you are doing.

And, although it is exciting and fun to be able to guide your body into  challenging postures (asanas), it is important to remember that the purpose of yoga is to allow you to be still inside and experience the peace within you: the union of mind, body and spirit.

Erich Schiffmann puts this beautifully:

“Yoga will make you sensitive to the stillness, the presence, the hush, the peace of God. This deep inner stillness is at the core of your being… Do not underestimate the value of being balanced, centered, coordinated, of being strong and light, of being more flexible, without pain …and of being more sensitive.”

My wish for you today is that you have the opportunity to be in yoga, to be more sensitive, that you go within and become increasingly aware of what is going on inside; to embody being in yoga and experience peace in the midst of stress, “noise, trouble, or hard work”.

If you want to be in yoga, to access the deep blissful stillness within join me for my weekend yoga retreat to the Glen of Imaal in Ireland. The theme is saying "YES" to Life rather than being immersed in the fluctuations of  your mind.

Saying “YES” to Life brings a spring to your steps, makes your smile, feel joyous and happy to be alive.

The special offer for this retreat ends today, 21st June, at midnight. Go here to book and for more information.
