Did you know that the practice of wearing black started in ancient Greece and can affect your immunity and wellbeing. Apparently a woman whose husband had died was not considered to be good and was not respected. If she wore black clothing that covered her body from head to toes, she’d die very soon after her husband.
Why? Because her immune system would shut down and she would start to get diseases.
Research on the neurophysiology of light shows that there are cells on the outer layer of the skin that respond to light. Light affects pigment as well as particles in body fluids and inside cells that travel to different parts of the body via the blood and lymph. When these colour energised cells arrive at their target sites, they discharge the colour/light-energy, which then activates and organises cell metabolism.
This is why the colour of your clothes can affect your mood and immunity.
“A study showed that wearing black clothing immediately depresses the NK-cell activity and several other parameters used to judge the activity of the immune system. Black is carcinogenic. The opposite is also true: wearing rainbow colors stimulates the immune system and the mood.” (source:http://www.klinghardtacademy.com/Articles/The-Neurophysiology-of-Light-The-Five-Pathways.html)
If you love dark colours, especially wearing black, do consider wearing more rainbow colours. You may be feeling somewhat resistant right now, but ultimately the choice is yours - black versus colourful clothing. After all, it may be difficult to give up wearing your little black dress.
Black is considered in the fashion world to be sexy, elegant, sophisticated and a symbol of power. Why would you want to give all of those up?
All of those things need to come from within rather than from what you wear. I remember being annoyed by this information when I was relayed to me on a yoga teacher training course. And I resisted it because I was used to wearing dark coloured clothing. Now, I wear a few items of black clothing from time to time and but I prefer to wear light colours.
