Hidden Talents – How do you lead a massive organisation using the gift of unconditional love? Leadership comes in many forms and Amma has comforted and embraced more than 33 million people and runs a massive humanitarian organisation. My friend and I went to see her earlier this week. We woke up very early to get to Alexandra Palace, North London, to receive our token for her darshan (her hug or embrace).
Neither of us had been before and I didn’t really have any expectations. There was a seated area at the front of the huge, cavernous, cold hall, stalls in the middle and a refreshment area at the back. We were seated quite early with a video playing on the big screen revealing Amma’s work. There was a lot of emphasis on Amma’s Darshan as we watched the video.
According to the booklet I received, Amma’s Darshan or embrace “…allows [people] to experience true, unconditional love. When Amma holds someone it can help to awaken the dormant spiritual energy within them, which will eventually take them to the ultimate goal of self-realisation.”
I was intrigued as I watched and thought that her darshan was a wonderful gift to the world. Amma has repeated this “unique, extraordinary expression of universal love… hour after hour and day after day for the last 40 years…” Her embrace has been both the catalyst and symbol for the growing humanitarian movement now called Embracing the World”.
As we watched the video we discussed and wondered how anyone could hug so many people, one after the other. It is her gift, I said. In the booklet Amma is reported as saying “where there is true love, everything is effortless.”
After some time, Amma came on stage and there was a short meditation, which was very calming. My mind became quiet and very peaceful. There were a lot of people there and it was at least a couple of hours before our token number came up for us to have our Darshan. We finally got to the front of the queue…
There was actually a process for being embraced. Amma, or the revered Mother as she is called, was seated. You had to say what your native language is, then ushered forward to kneel in front of her, guided to place your right hand on the right arm of her chair and the other arm to the other side. Amma is told your language.
All I remember after this was being embraced. Pulled to Amma’s bosom and hugged very close. She uttered words, maybe a prayer, in another language. It was a little surreal. I have to say that her embrace felt a little “smothering” for me. My friend described her experience as seeing just white (Amma was wearing a white garment). I asked someone who was sitting next to me at lunch what her experience was and she was “it was very emotional.” Everyone has their unique experience and I daresay it may have helped my spiritual energy to come alive more. I know from my own experiences that the spiritual often works in mysterious ways.
I woke up at about 6am this morning and started to wonder about our experience at Alexandra Palace, with Amma and her ‘tribe’ of followers and volunteers. Everything was wonderfully organised and flowed smoothly. It is a very well orchestrated business because they have to make money in order to do the humanitarian work that they do and so various goods and food were being sold. You could make a donation as well. There were many volunteers helping.
At intervals a man walked around with a plague asking for help with washing up dishes, cutting vegetables and a couple of other things. After a time this went down to just one item, so people who had not come as volunteers were helping. We chose not to volunteer as there was no feeling to do so and we were not there to be ‘good’. This is not to say that those who volunteered wanted to be or feel good. I make this comment because when you teach yoga or do spiritual work there is sometimes the assumption that you “shouldn’t”get angry ad express other so-called negative emotions, or everything you do should be unpaid or a low price. The wares at this event were market price and rightly so. Okay, I’m off my soap box now.
It was a very peaceful and relaxed atmosphere.
Amma’s way of making a difference in the world is extraordinary. She was born in 1953 in a tiny fishing village in Kerala, India. She was apparently meditating at the age of 2. She is world renowned, at least in the spiritual arena and has spoken at the United Nations, for her gift/talent of embracing people and making a huge difference in the world through her ’embraces’ and huge humanitarian organisation.
I pondered how many of us, including moi, are not using our gifts and talents to our fullest potential. This is brought home to me as I analyse people’s hands and bring to their conscious awareness the gift markings or extra potential talents that show up in their hands. Some people are gifted problem solvers – called Octopus or Computer brain – because they are highly skilled at processing complex information and absorbing data. Mostly these people when told confirm that they are good at this. However, they are barely using this gift and mainly doing jobs that do not challenge them.
Others are highly creative and their first reaction is to deny it, but when asked ‘what they know about it’, they start to talk about how their passion was/is drawing, writing, sewing, painting.. as a child or now. Creative doesn’t just apply to traditional arts but to any activity – computer programming, architecture, gardening, cake-making… It’s about your individual creative expression. The main challenge for people with this gift is fear of rejection, criticism or ridicule from their peers or others.
There are 18 archetypal gift markings in the hands or extra potential talents and you can have zero or more. Only about 10{a96b29581f8ce42daab38f712645ee506149849ec98e0c0df66c3db27bbbe002} of the population have gift markings which are extra potential talents and if you have them you may not be using them. They are rare markings. If you don’t have any extra potential talents markings it doesn’t mean you are not gifted. You may have already embraced your gift(s) and you’re expressing it/them enough so you don’t feel that something is missing.
When you have gift markings the message from your hands is that your talents need to become a central focus of your life along with your life purpose. The lines form based on your neural pathways – ways of feeling, thinking and being – and can change.
When you have gift markings and you are not using them, it often shows up in your life as an inner ‘pressure’ or “knowing”, most or all of the time, to be doing more with your life – you feel dissatisfied, unfulfilled, frustrated and this may be expressed in the form of blaming others for your feeling of lack – the job, economy, parents, children etc. are to blame.
Your extra potential talents could be leadership or super achiever, wealth generator, gifted healer, spiritual teacher,
interpreter/ translator, exceptional courage/advocate, unconditional love like Amma, to name a few others.
The question is: Are you using your talents? Do you know what they are? What would you say comes easily to you, that you do with ease? What are you passionate about?
You could start by simply asking family/friends/trusted colleagues what they think you do exceptionally well.
You could also have you hands analysed? This is part of what I do as a scientific hand analyst. If your interest has been piqued, then I have a few slots available next week for a short 20-minute discovery call if you feel that you want to identify your gifts or move from confusion to more clarity about your gifts and how you can make your mark in the world. Simply, email support@exoticauthenticity.com and we can take it from there. You won’t have your hands read on the call, it’s just a discovery call so you are not committing to anything.
You, too, can make a difference in the world using your gifts and talents. Unconditional love, which many strive for, is not everyone’s gift. It’s Amma’s gift and she has used it to change the lives of many, many people.
How do you want to use your talents and gifts to make a difference – assuming that you do want to make your mark in the world?
